The management team currently serving Golden Eagle has long held beliefs about the importance of being a good corporate neighbor. In the community of Cangalli, Bolivia, it was very apparent that supplying jobs to the people of the region was critical; but along with that, there were also many needs in the areas of health, education as well as community welfare as a whole.
- In 1996, Golden Eagle rehabilitated the run down, dilapidated Cangalli Hospital. The Company hired a full-time physician and nurse, opened the pharmacy, and re-kindled health care in an area that had not had it for decades. Today, the Golden Eagle Hospital has a full-time family care physician, a full-time OB/GYN and three interns that rotate from the medical school at the University of Saint Andrew. The Company installed the only operating room and x-ray machine in Cangalli. The pharmacy also functions full-time and stocks all major medicines in demand in the area.
- The Health Fair has been a long-standing tradition, bringing badly needed doctors and nurses into the region. The Golden Eagle Hospital was established to facilitate our health goals on a continual year-round basis with many health services being offered there.
- The Cangalli School teaches 135 students in grades between Kindergarten and 8th grade. The school in the region has suffered greatly with little to no money to buy books, equipment, and those items necessary to run the school effectively. Golden Eagle has stepped in with help in all of those areas, forming an education partnership that has lasted for years and will continue into the future.
- The township of Cangalli used a generator with electricity supplied by the company for over six years. Now the community buys power from the National Electrical Company. We have been involved with the building up of infrastructure within the region. Building and restoring roadways and highways. Lending a hand, along with equipment and machinery, for the rebuilding of areas destroyed by flooding and other problems caused by nature.
Golden Eagle is very aware of its power to do good in the region of its mine sites and their communities. While keeping our foremost goal of maintaining value for our shareholders, we will continue to strengthen our ties with these communities believing that we are building a better company, and therefore, a better community.
